Are you a passive aggressive female diver like me?

Celebrating Progress in Gender Diversity

At PKT Diving, we are bursting with pride because our average female attendance on our PADI IDC's stands at around 70%. Yes, you read that right! We are absolutely thrilled to be leading the way in welcoming more women into the world of diving professionals.

At PKT Diving, we don't just work in the diving industry; we are trailblazers, changing the balance in gender representation within the industry.

But why in 2023 is this still a conversation?

Breaking Stereotypes and Embracing Assertiveness: A Dive into Empowerment

Diving, with its mystique and adventure, is a world many aspire to explore. Yet, as we look deeper into the world of diving professionals, we can't ignore the noticeable gender gap.

Why aren't there enough female diving professionals - could it be related to the perception of assertiveness as passive-aggressiveness?

The Dilemma of the Double Standard

The diving industry, like many others, has its quirks, one being the infamous double standard. When males assert themselves, they're seen as confident and strong. But when a female does the same, it's often interpreted as passive-aggressiveness. We're somehow expected to sugar-coat our words, as if speaking our truth too bluntly is a crime.

"Sweetie, Are You Okay Down There?"

Ah, the infamous tone of concern. It's almost a given that when a female diver asserts herself, someone might ask if she's okay, or worse, if it's "that time of the month." Because apparently, a woman's assertiveness can only be explained by hormonal fluctuations.

Navigating the Depths of Assertive Politeness

Female divers often become masters of assertive politeness. They say "no" with a smile, and "yes" with grace. It's like they've developed a secret language of assertiveness that's hidden in plain sight. But here's the thing – this assertive politeness is a superpower. It allows women to get things done while leaving the ocean bed in their wake as calm and serene as ever.

Embrace Your Inner "Passive-Aggressive" Diver

The next time someone accuses you of being "passive-aggressive" as a female diver, don't get discouraged. Instead, embrace it! Wear that label with pride. What they may see as passive-aggressiveness, you know is just you being assertive in your own unique way.

And that's not something to be ashamed of – it's something to celebrate! Embrace your inner mermaid.

The Mermaid Connection: A Splash of Fun and History

Speaking of mermaids, these enchanting creatures have been a part of maritime folklore for centuries. With the upper body of a human and the lower body of a fish, mermaids have captivated the imaginations of sailors and storytellers alike.

In folklore, they were often depicted as both alluring and mischievous, and it's said that their mesmerizing songs could lead sailors off course. Perhaps, in the realm of diving and exploration, we can embrace our inner mermaids. After all, they've been asserting themselves in their own unique, aquatic way for ages.

So, let's take a leaf out of their mythical book and channel some mermaid magic into our diving adventures – gracefully assertive and mysteriously empowered, just like the legendary mermaids of the deep blue sea! 🧜‍♀️🌊💁‍♀️

Explore the depths of the diving world with a touch of mermaid charm and a splash of assertiveness. It's a journey where you can be both powerful and enchanting, just like the mermaids of lore. Embrace your inner mermaid, dive into the world of gender equality, and let your unique qualities shine beneath the waves of the diving industry! 🌊💫

The Dive for Gender Equality

In the world of assertiveness and perceived passive-aggressiveness, remember that you're not alone. The diving industry, like any other, has its challenges and expectations. But you've got the power to change the narrative.

Be yourself, speak your truth, and let them wonder how you manage to be so wonderfully assertive with a dash of quirkiness.

And you know what? We need more women in this industry as professionals, Dive Centre Managers, Instructors and Course Directors – to bring the empathy, collectiveness, understanding, equality, love, and, of course, the outstanding teaching. Just like the mysterious and assertive mermaids of the deep sea. Because it's these very qualities that can transform the diving industry and pave the way for a more inclusive and vibrant community.

After all, what's life without a little bit of spice, a touch of feminine finesse, and a pinch of mermaid magic?

Empower yourself, embrace your assertive ways and let it shine beneath the waves of the diving world, just like a confident and empowered mermaid! 🌊🧜‍♀️💁‍♀️
